In the near future, a plethora of electric vehicles (EVs) will be readily available to forward-thinking individuals in 2023. With numerous new models hitting the market last year, customers will have an extensive range of choices when it comes to EVs.

Renowned automotive brands like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz have recently made their entry into the South African market by introducing innovative EV models, expanding the options available to consumers.

Eugene Herbert, the CEO of MasterDrive, revealed a remarkable statistic: South Africa experienced a substantial surge in EV sales during the initial three months of 2022, surpassing the combined sales of 2020 and 2021. Over 1,400 electric vehicles were sold within this period, reflecting the growing popularity and acceptance of EVs.

Despite the positive sales figures, Herbert also acknowledged that certain challenges are impeding the widespread adoption of EVs in South Africa. Key obstacles include a lack of sufficient infrastructure to support widespread charging, concerns surrounding limited driving range (commonly known as range anxiety), and the overall affordability of EVs for the general population. Addressing these challenges will be crucial in facilitating the transition to electric mobility across the country.
