The South African Police Service (SAPS) has initiated the process of tracking down the victims who were reportedly assaulted by its members in a widely circulated video. The exact date and cause of the incident remain unclear, but the SAPS's VIP Protection members were filmed dragging and brutally attacking a man on the N1 highway in Fourways, Johannesburg.
Following the circulation of a video clip depicting the incident on various media platforms, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed that the SAPS management has taken immediate action to locate the victims and gather their statements. Concurrently, an internal departmental investigation has been initiated.
Mathe stated that a preliminary report suggests that the vehicles captured in the video are indeed owned by the SAPS, and the individuals seen in the footage are members of the police service.
