Woman arrested for killing her boyfriend, a police officer, plans to enter a guilty plea

Woman arrested for killing her boyfriend, a police officer, plans to enter a guilty plea.

Sergeant Mandlenkosi Happy Thwala, 45, was killed in August 2022, and Zanele Mkhonto, a 28-year-old woman who was arrested for the crime, has said she plans to enter a guilty plea.

The Nelspruit-based Hawks, also known as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, looked into the police officer's brutal murder.

The Mbombela High Court remanded Mkhonto in custody on Wednesday and rescheduled the case for the guilty plea for Thursday.

The same day, she showed up at the KaNyamazane Magistrate's Court and was placed under custody remand. Mkhonto, the accused, fought in court multiple times to get bail and was assisted by Legal Aid. She was not granted bail and has been detained ever since.

Major General Nicholas Jacobus Gerber, the provincial head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, has praised the prosecuting solicitors and the investigating officer for their cooperation during the thorough investigation of the murder case.

www.zatrending.com revealed that a worried neighbour found Thwala's body a few days after the horrific murder.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police, stated at the time, "According to information, police in Pienaar were called to attend to a scene where a neighbour alleges that she received a call from the mother of the member, requesting the neighbour to check on her son as she is suspecting that her son might have been murdered."

He was found motionless and lying in bed with obvious gunshot wounds on his body when the police arrived. According to Mohlala, he was shot five times, twice with his service pistol, once in the head and three times in the upper body.

"A murder case with an additional charge of robbery was opened for investigation. There were also two cartridges found on the floor, and his vehicle, a green Volkswagen Polo Classic with registration DSV 112 MP, as well as his service firearm and mobile were missing but later discovered abandoned in the bushes."
