Singer Moonchild Sanelly has opened up on social media about being raped and, in a separate incident, sexually assaulted by a relative.
In a candid Twitter post, Moonchild shared her experience, revealing that a family member had sexually harassed her. When she attempted to report the incident to the police, she claimed officers dismissed her concerns and encouraged her to handle the matter privately.
"One time I was sexually harassed by [a relative] and went to report it with my friend Maps," she wrote. "The police, both male and female, asked me what I was wearing, why I danced with [the relative], and told me I should go home and sort it out with my family. They put me in the van and drove me home."
"I stayed silent, thinking I had done something wrong. It took me years to realize I was actually protecting a predator. I can’t say he turned out well,” she admitted.
The singer went on to share her harrowing experience of being raped, prompting many others on Twitter to open up about their own stories.
“I was raped on the floor of my room. A guy who saw it happening thought I was cheating on him—even though we weren’t in a relationship—and left, even though it was clear I was unconscious. The rapist continued, and I woke up with him inside me, wearing a condom,” she revealed.
She added, “Earlier this year, I messaged him out of anger. Since then, I’ve made the decision to forgive him—for my own peace.”
