Botswana citizen apprehended upon entering South Africa from eSwatini with R33,000 worth of dagga

A 35-year-old citizen of Botswana was taken into custody by Mpumalanga police in South Africa at the Oshoek border with eSwatini (formerly Swaziland). The arrest occurred due to the individual's unlawful entry into the country, accompanied by approximately eight kilograms of dagga.

During a routine patrol, members of the Oshoek border policing unit grew suspicious of a man carrying a travel bag.

Upon inspecting the bag, the police discovered four bundles of cannabis (dagga), wrapped in brown masking tape, weighing approximately eight kilograms and estimated to be worth R33,600.

Further investigation revealed that the apprehended individual is a Botswana citizen who was journeying from eSwatini to South Africa.

The man is scheduled to appear before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga. Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the provincial police spokesperson, emphasized that this arrest highlights the police's dedication to upholding state authority and combating criminal activities.
