In an effort to reclaim her creative rights, Swift has issued four re-records, including this album.
1989 (Taylor's Version), the singer's reworked 2014 album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums list, giving the 33-year-old Swift her biggest album debut to date.
The album debuted on October 27 and is the singer's 13th No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Its incredible sales in just the first week, totaling 1.359 million, shattered the record she had previously established for herself when the album's original version was released in 2014, with 1.287 million copies sold.
Based on unit sales, 1989 (Taylor's Version) is also the biggest album launch since Adele published 25 in 2015, according to Billboard. Swift's new album has the sixth-largest sales week of all time, behind Adele, *NSYNC, Eminem, and the Backstreet Boys. This is based on album sales since 1991.
"I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly," Swift wrote on Instagram when the re-recorded album was released last week. I could never have imagined the long-lasting magic you would bring into my life.
"This moment is a reflection of the woods we've wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark," the "Anti-Hero" singer went on. With immense thanks and wonder, I offer you my interpretation of 1989. It was holding out for you. Taylor.”
The Grammy Award winner's fourth re-recording, 1989 (Taylor's Version), was released a few months after her July release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and after the 2021 re-releases of Fearless and Red.
